Raw Shell Cordovan Coin Pouch
Today I made a shell cordovan coin pouch. I’ve had these cordovan shells for a while, and I always liked the texture of the unfinished side, so I thought I’d try making the coin pouch inside out. The reverse side of the shell has a slightly nubuck feel.

The cordovan really is nice to work with. It’s supple and easy to cut, yet somehow has strength.

The biggest problem I have is that my hardware isn’t quite what I was after. The coin conch and the snap buttons take up a lot of vertical space.

Changes afoot
I’m changing jobs, and as part of that I’m moving Indigofan’s site hosting.
As you can see I’m messing with the templates – things are a bit broken. Check back in a few days.
Eco Index for Apparel
The Wall Street Journal has an article on a system being developed to rate clothing on their environmental impact.

In the interactive for a pair of 501 jeans there are some statistics given…

I’m sure that my water usage over the life of a pair of jeans is MUCH less that what used for these claims.

I like the relaxed style in a lot of these images
Indigofera australis
I just found that my local nursery has native Australian indigo plants.

I planted this one in my front garden. I have a history of killing plants, so let’s see how long it survives.
I found a PDF by Robyn Heywood which talks about methods of creating dye from Indigofera australis. I think I need a bigger garden.

This book is seriously amazing.
It’s like getting access to the best denim museum in the world.
You should also visit the discussion thread on the Superfuture – Superdenim forum. I think that Michael Allen Harris has been posting numerous updates and additional pictures to the discussion thread.
Free & Easy Denim Issue

Jobsey got me the latest issue of Free & Easy which has a focus on denim.
I love these illustrations in this issue.
And I want this Duckdigger 1873 Riveted Vest.
